Western States (Missouri / Illinois / Indiana / Kentucky / Tennessee / Part of Arkansas Territory / etc.) Issued Boston, 1831 by S. G. Goodrich. Engraved by G. Boynton. Charming little early 19th century antique miniature child's school map. Captures the region at a fascinating point in its history. Arkansas Territory so named, as is Michigan Terr. & the Western Terr. above MO. Small population statistical box within Missouri gives Illiniois at approx 161,000, Mississippi at c. 185,000, Indiana 300,000, etc. Pronounced old dampstaining across the top half. Map looks its age, various small age flaws such as rounded corners, yet in a curious way still completely visually appealing. obviously far from perfect condition, but yet also not offensive looking. Map displays a nobel age patina of random survival difficult to describe with words, showing approaching 200 years of time & the environment. Captures the region at a fascinating point in its history. Sheet measures c. 6 1/2" x 5" Engraved area measures c. 5 3/4" x 4 1/4" Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers, vol. II, pg. 187. [R12777]
