Artist Bio: My interest in art came at an early age. My Mom is an art teacher and it was just a natural thing to do. I started taking private art lessons from Judy Apple in the 3rd grade. I did my first commissioned piece when I was 9 years old. I’m like most artists in that I want to do it my way and not how someone else wants me to. So after several years, I quit lessons. I was identified gifted in art in the 4th grade and went on to complete Art 4 as a sophomore. My subject matter use to be cars, cars and more cars. In the spring of 2006 I began doing copper sculptures and using computer parts to create robots. I like working with three dimensional art, and I like it big.
Artist’s Interpretation: I became interested in Graffiti after going to Asheville, NC where my brother was in college. Seeing all of the work done on the abandoned buildings really inspired me. I started to collect art books on graffiti and learned about Michael Basquiat. Many of the artists are not fomally trained, but have a lot of talent.. I look at Graffiti as an art form, not something to be cleaned off. I think Graffiti artsts should be given spaces to create and this would allow them to show their work and have it appreciated, not erased.
