Royal Spring Rain
Karen Eugenia Mitchell LaBach

Barrel Location: Community Arts Center, Boyle County

Artist Bio:  Karen Eugenia Mitchell LaBach was born in Lexington, Kentucky while Truman was President.  Her father was a surveryor, and water drainage expert who took civil engineering at UK after WWII.  Karen grew up in a family that was aware of the need for water conservation.
She graduated from the Unviersity of Mississippi with a fine art degree and worked as a commercial artist for 30 years, mostly for Thoroughbred horse people.  Karen is married and lives in Georgetown with her husband, Bill LaBach, an attorney.

Artist’s Interpretation: The concept was that Scott County, Georgetown, in particular was founded because of the water source, the Royal Spring, located at Water Street and Main in Georgetown.  The North Elkhorn runs into the South Elkorn and this entire region of Kentucky depends on rainfall and the water sources.
