Just Wild About Birds
Christ the King School, 3rd Grade
Barrel Location: J & H Lanmark Store, Moore Drive
Artist Bio: Mrs. Mary Joe Quinn, Art Instructor, and the third grade students at Christ the King School in Lexington KY completed this rain barrel entry. The school’s mission is to develop the Mind, Body and Spirit of each student. This includes teaching students about environmental stewardship and their role in taking care of our Earth. The third grade class also manages the Recycling and Composting Programs at the school. In addition to this rain barrel entry, they are working to complete the rain barrel for the school garden, entitled “Saint Francis of Assisi - Patron Saint of the Environment”.
Artist’s Interpretation: Birds are natural indicators of the health of ecosystems. They are the literal “canary in the coalmine.” When birds disappear from an area, it signals the deteriorating health of the entire ecosystem.
