Water and Nature
Shelley Grund

Barrel Location: Phillip Gall’s Outdoor and Ski, Lexington
Artist’s Interpretation: All living creatures require water to live. When this life-giving resource is polluted it impacts us all, including the plants and animals with which we share the world. I believe humans are the custodians of earth’s environment and that we must be aware of what that means. This rain barrel is meant to remind us of nature and the innocent beings that rely on earth’s resources.
Creatures included: chipmunk, finch, frog, cottontail rabbit, red fox, salamander, and wood mouse,
Bio: Shelley Grund is an artist specializing in realistic artwork in oil paint and acrylics. She’s been painting for over 30 years, and those who see her work are interested to learn that she taught herself through private study.
Shelley explores the challenges found in all types of subjects, including portraits, figures, landscapes, still life, and wildlife/animals. Working in her studio she has produced artwork in all these subjects, many of which were commissioned pieces for clients. In the past couple of years Shelley has taken her paints out of the studio and into the great outdoors to paint "Plein Air" landscapes.
For 6 years Ms. Grund painted murals and decorative elements in Wisconsin. Clients hired her to produce one-of-kind artwork on the surfaces of their homes and businesses. She found it a fun, challenging, and rewarding career.
In 2006 Shelley and her husband moved to South Central Kentucky and her artistic focus has shifted back to studio work and plein air. She is thrilled with all the potential subjects in and around her new environment.
