Artist’s Interpretation:
For many generations, women have been creating quilts. Working together in groups, these artists create life-lasting bonds of friendship and wonderful, functional works of art out of materials that would normally be discarded. Typically, they passed their skills down from generation to generation, creating new quilters as well as dressmakers and seamstresses. In honor of these women, their creations, and their relationships, I created this barrel, with both contemporary and classic patterns, florals and stripes. They illustrate the beauty that comes from creative conservation.

Bio:
Christina Zavos is a Lexington native who has spent a great deal of her time with books and libraries. In her art, she seeks to achieve a balance between beauty and function, as well as the simple and the complex. She believes that creation is an essential part of life and encourages others to be artistic by using common, everyday materials. While attending graduate school, she hopes to do more to stretch her creative muscles.
